Well we are in Livingston have been for the last 3 days!! Did all our paperwork completed and a Zarpe ffor Belize, headed out made it about 15 miles out, tore the clew out of jib, then had motor problems, decided to sail under mainsail back to Livingston. Next morning, Luvi sent our second jib down in a launcha Q100, not bad. Dick found water in the fuel filter, replaced filter, bled the lines, and got her going again, after pumping more water out of the main tank. Now we have "good" fuel.... we think.
Sailed back out yesterday, got about 10 miles, motor overheated, and she pumped all her base oil into the bilge!!!. Shut her down and sailed back into Livingston. Went to Raoul at Customs office looking for a mechanic recommendation. He says: "go to Texaco dock, ask for Sexy, and he will know where to find Juan for you"... We found "Sexy" and after a Q50 prod, he went looking for Juan. It appears Juan was drunk as this is big celebration around here this week, but promised to be available tomorrow (Sat morning) at 07:00 he was. Together with his friend Clement and Sexy we headed out to Whitecap at the Marina. Replace the engine oil, filled the exhaust cooler, bled the second filter (which Dick forgot to do) and replaced the completely worn out raw water impeller, we carry 2 spares. Engine started, we ran her for an hour everything OK. Paid off Juan Q850!!! and another Q50 for Sexy and we were off.. two hours out Mercedes makes strange noises... she again pumped all her base oil into the bilge!!! we sailed back to Livingston, beautiful breeze, the Ellen, Kate and Justin swam behind the boat, everything just the way a cruise in the Carribean should be..
Now we are waiting for Luvi to send a Panga down to pick us up andf tow Whitecap back to the dock in Fronteres Rio Dulce, where Dick will dismantle the motor for removal and rebuilding over the summer.
Thats all the news from beautiful hot Livingston Guatemala today...

Dick and Mary,
I found your Saga this morning on the web. My cable was out. I found it very entertaining and full of information. I am anxious to see your next entry. When are you going back to Whitecap? I have plans to semi-retire in about 10 years and do just what you are doing! Thanks for posting this site. If you are around Annapolis, shoot me an email. Would love to have you ride on the Tartan 10 I race on.

We are going to breakfast this AM with cousin Allan who we have not seen for 40+ years, then we will head out to Wollesley Island Marina where we left Maxxie and the U-Haul dolly, wonder if she will start?? Will let you know tomorrow

OK found it Bill Thanks!!
Este uno programa bono, but not very user friendly!! the Nav program is much better, where you can add waypoints etc... It says two days to get home from here, but we can only do 80KM max after that she sways unless you have power on but that burns up gas mucho mucho.
Evan is off tomorrow and Sat, we will go pick up Maxxie in the US on Saturday afternoon, we will probably leave here on Sunday weather permitting. It stormed all day today, but is now clear outside and milder.

Hola everyone, it is now Wednesday at 16:00. We are now at Cindy and Evans in Kingston Ontario. Stayed in Kingston NY last night, woke up to heavy snow this AM (Wednesday) headed to Albany NY and then to Utica and Syracuse, then turned north on I-87 to the Thousand Island Bridge. Would not let us take Maxxie La Mercedes across the border, had to leave the papers with them and were on our own to find a safe location to leave the vehicle (cannot leave it here it will be towed away). Drove around the island, finally found a winterized Marina where for $20. the kind gentleman let us park the dolly and Maxxie until Saturday. Then we proceeded back to the border and crossed into Ontario. The overall result is we are here until Saturday when we can go pick up Maxxie then will return across into Canada and start for PEI if it does not snow!!! Which is the forecast.
Anyway all is well, Maxxie starts after a bit of glow plug and the engine purrs like a kitten, there are rust spots and a few dings here and there but the transmission seems to be OK. Tires are 90% good and there is a new battery. Moon roof and windows all work as does the AC and Heat.
- Wednesday, January 05, 2005 at 18:28:23 (EST)
I checked my booster and I get a red light (in the back) when I first plug into AC and then a green one when it's charged. The test button on the front runs up from red to green when the charge is good. If overnight charge (on AC) doesn't turn the light green, then there must be something wrong with the unit.
Summerside, PE Canada - Monday, January 03, 2005 at 14:29:20 (EST)
Morning Bill and everyone
Have a problem with our CDN Tire "Eliminator" battery booster.. She is on red light, and will not charge even on 110V. Bill can you read the instructions, to see If there is something I am not doing... Pushed the reset, still no go.
We are off now for NY State.
- Monday, January 03, 2005 at 08:46:27 (EST)
Hi everyone. Left Summerside at 07:30 stopped to visit Jake Palmer, another "greaser" (this is a term to describe smart folks who convert yheir diesel cars to burn used veggie oil or WVO for short). We are now in Portsmouth NH for the night. Well fed and Mary is keeping track of every penny... even the tips!!! Wants to prove that it would be cheaper to buy a diesel truck...
Tomorrow we head for Garrison New York to get a look at THE CAR, which henceforth shall be called "Maxxie the Mercedes" or just Maxxie for short...
Having fun, but bums are sore from sitting.

Hi Dick. Found your web site. Love your logs. Thought I recognized your boat's name and photo as well as yours. Small world. We met on the intracoastal canal March 3rd. I was on my Vagabond 47 and we followed each other to Rockport Texas.
If you come back to Houston, let me know via email and I'll buy you a meal. I stay at the Waterford Harbour.
Hope all is going well for you.
Best regards and Happy New Year.

just came accross your site & spent an hour cruising (& boozing) with you.
We're all still on the same barstools here, just a different bar - Cucumber Beach Marina. They are doing a much better job than we did at Moho, but don't think they are having quite as much fun!! Seriously, if you are ever heading this way, it is a great & very secure place to berth.
Happy new year to you & yours.
p.s. I'll pass your site on to Phil & co.

How are things going? Have not seen Carolyn for awhile, but Mary talks to her now and then on the phone, guess she is busy working.
Have finally perfected the set-up for the Skype computer/phone system , and have been able to talk to EMY on ADL almost daily, well at least for the last 3 days... for the Rio news and it is free, speech is clear and it is just like talking over the phone.
We hear all is well on the Rio but not much news from our little corner of paradise in Shell Bay. I understand the new wall is up, and Yankee Girl has moved to Mar Marine, too bad. Emy told them about the phone thing, if they get internet connection at the boat they should hook it up. I am also connected to Denny's Beach but have not talked to them yet.
All is well here, my busted thumb is coming along well, just waiting for the nail to grow off... everything put away at the club and curling has started. They had a big surprise party for me last Sat here at the house, and it was really a surprise as my birthday is not until next week. There were as many here as my age!!! It was fun. I weaned myself off hard liquor 3 months ago, just wine and a beer now and then but lots of Soda Water...
Presently looking for an old Mercedes diesel car for myself. Todd is building a new exhaust riser/mixer for Whitecap and I will bring some new asbestos gasket stuff. Looks like mid January now. I am busy feeding the woodstove to keep warm.
Hi to everyone
