Tuesday news.
Started early this AM, moved the small panel for the auto bailer re-installed the propane on/off switch and cut and installed the new alternator panel. Looks good.
Last night we went to Rosita's for "Chicken Steak" a dinghy ride of 2 miles each way. LeRoy Carolyn michael Vickie Mary and I, used two dinks, beer wine and food under $20 per couple!!! came back in the dark.
Making big plans for Pat's birthday on the 13th, will be a surprise for him. Glued the last piece on the mast top at noon today, it has a bump-out at the top-front for the shieve.
Glad to hear all the boats are in the shed, how did you do it???
Evan please try to get the cps-CD even if we have to buy one, sorry I never thought of it when I was home. Mary's nail is paining, LeRoy's treatments seem to be working, some kind of herbal thinghy boiled up and plastered on hot, then washed off, shower and put on an ointment called "Sulfa-penicllina", there are clear spots on his back after two days.
Tomorrow no plans yet, but Stu started the AQueen today, maybe I will look in the engine room!!!.

Ya me again. just went over to Tortugal Marina, maybe Word Osbourn may have some idea but he is not there. Now I am at Backpackers and got 18 messages "in". but still none going out.
Cannot spend all day at this too much to do... sorry no pics yet but that is the way cookie crumbles. Maybe I will try burning onto a CD and use an internet machine, ah but I will not have addresses!!!!
Mary stubbed her big toe and split the nail, moving from one place to another in the dink, she is getting "dinghy butt" (constant wet rear end) because I make her sit in the front!!!. Well gotta go,

Just thought I'd let you know Bedeque Bay was full of ice today. Wonder if it will stay? We'll have to get the ice boat out now that we know where the sail is. We moved some boats around the barn and are ready to put Blair in.

Hi Mom & Dad hope everything is going well with you guys down in all that heat!!! We've had enough of the snow already and its just starting. The kids did well in the hockey tournament this weekend with Michael's team winning the gold. Sarah & Jennifer lost the championship game (giving them their 1st loss of the season), Marie's team lost the championship game also, Marie only played two shifts as she took a slap shot off her thumb, after a trip to the QEhospital back to the hockey game to watch the end (She wouldn't stay at the hospital) then to Summerside to sit another 4.5hrs at the hospital only to have Maureen fix her up in the end. Nothing broken just a bad sprain. Enjoy your weather and think of us up here freezing. Love Brian, Paula & Kids

You probably know by now that today is cold and blustery here with school cancelled at this end of the island. Hi Everyone
Well we arrived at the Rio at 11:00 after leaving the Posada Belen in Guate City at 05:00 this morning. Spent the day in the marker behind the Basilica in Zona 1 downtown, Mary has all her Christmas shopping done, but now we have to lug all this stuff around for the winter!!! Trip down was uneventful, except in Chicago they even had Mary remove her sneakers looking for shoe bombs!!! Paranoia or what. They also searched all our luggage at each stop, in Chicago, the young lady said we have a lot of wire in that big box, the conversation went like this: Lady: what is this wire for? Dick: that is the wire to connect the GPS to the computer. Lady: and what is this wire for? Dick: that is the wire for the volt meter. Lady: why is there two a black one and a red one? Dick: that is to test positive and negative sides. Lady: Why does it have two ends? Dick One is female and one is male! Lady: And what is this black wire for? Dick: that is to connect the VCR to the computer, there is also a red one and they each have male and female ends... Lady: and what is this wire for? That is to connect the Satillite phone to the computer. Lady: and this one. Dick: that is to connect the Satillite phone to the cigarette lighter to charge the battery. And then she found the wires to connect the new high output alternator..... Then Dick had to completely repack the big box. Then she started on the big long box with the sunbrella for the new dodger.... and on and on.
Whitecap looks really good all cleaned up, we expected to find mold everywhere but none anywhere except the haillards ar a little green. it has been raining here for the last week, and it rained all last night too, had supper at Backpackers, crowded as usual on Sat night, there is a Triathelon going on, bike 25 miles down the mountain, rapelle the bridge and swim to the finish line, there were at least 50 of them, with more onlookers. Heather, (yes they have one here too) the Nova Scotia girl at the bar, came over and planted a big kiss, Dick told her he had a new "I AM Canadian" tee shirt for her.

Hi guys, I talked to Peter Mellish today and he said Dick was on his way down and he said you guys can only stay 30 days at a time and then you have to leave for a day. Peter said you were staying on Dick's boat for that day. What do they do for Xmas down ther? I read you rnote that said you sold the van, how are you travelling STUPID??? They don't like white hitchhikers you know!! Perhaps you should have bought a dodge instead of a chev van....it may have lasted longer! Mom's going to the K of C's dinner tonight in Cape Traverse. John Mark found a 1957 dodge mayfair 4 door 361-4 barrell dual exhaust, 35,000 miles all original-original owner with paper work and stuff to go with it- in sside. He was going to see the old fellow to see how much he wanted for it. He said dad had one the same at one time. Well it's freakin' cold here today...talk to you again soon. BYE uysuys

Hi Everyone
Just waiting here in the Mexicana first class lounge, having a courvoisier or two waithig for our flight. They sure like our bags, they were searched in HFX, Chicago, went through with a fine tooth comb in Mexico City on arrival last night, and again today checking in for Guate City tonight!!! When they asked what was in the long box, Dick just reached over and pointed at the inspectors shirt and said : materiel. he cut the damm thing open anyway and found the sunbrella for the new dodger...
Did a US$75 5 hour tour today to the piramides and Guadeloupe ecglesa, dinner at the Sheraton airport, and now here.
Happy birthday Jennifer we forgot before we left and David too today.
Will be in Guate City for two nights, will have to get two taxis to take all the stuff to Posada Belen, as they only use small vehicles there, then will wait Ward Osbourne tomorrow night for the trip down the mountain to Rio Dulce on Saturday.

Hi LeRoy,
Looks like we will stay in Guate City for 2 nights (28th and 29th) and only head down to the river on the 30th. Ward Osbourne is staying at the Posada Belen also and he is arriving on the night of the 29th, my birthday by the way!!!.
If you do/can come to Guate City, the phone # for Posada Belen is 502-253-4530 or 232 9226, and the address is 13 Calle "A" 10 - 30, Zona 1 Guate City. That is the centre Zone, the Centro park is only a 5 minute walk away.
If you do come we can all van down together.

Packing today, have one box which weighs 10 lbs too much, will have to re-sort again. At least I found room for Nan Perry's Christmas fruit Cake...

Hi LeRoy and Carolyn
Major change in out itennary, cost from Miami to Belize City was too expensive, had to re-route. Now going HFX to Toronto to Chicago to Mexico City, overnight on the 27th overnight there and Guatemala City on the 28th arriving at 22:45. So we will have to overnight there probably at the Poseda Belen wwhere we stayed last spring.
Sorry we cannot do Belize City, but if you can do the van thing in Honduras again, meet us in Guate City and we all can do Belize in the van sometime in December to do the next 30 day thingy.
I think Whitecaps papers are good until Feb as we are on our 9 month extension. Just found this all out today, sorry about that but the Miami thing just was too expensive. We could fly from HFX to Belize on Continental same as last year return for less than Miami to Belize City!!! one way...

Please get back to us, we will be leaving here on Tuesday around noon for the Wed flight at 07:45
Raining here the last two days, temp around 10C. Not cold just miserable...

LeRoy, just finished arranging tickets with Air Canada, dep Nov 27 lv
Halifax at 07:45 arv Miami 13:23 via Toronto. Now I have to arrange Miami
to Belize City. American has 2 flights daily in the AM for US$215.one way,so it
should not be a problem getting seats.
If you come to Belize City and get there before us, take Carolyn over to Caye Caulker and San Pedro on Ambrigris Caye, but make sure you have a safe place to leave the van. Do not think the landing at Moho caye is safe anymore as they do not have a guard there overnight.
I think she will enjoy the "Lazy Lizard' on Caye Caulker, and maybe Popeye's where the waitress identified us as "three old men".
Will let you know ASAP on the Miami to Belize City flights.

Hi LeRoy and Carolyn
Back from the Miramach, slow driving snow started as we left, and there was 4" on the roads by the time we got home. Then it rained!!!
Exhaust parts arrived and the Globlestar phone, the new alternator should be ready also so I will book tickets today or tomorrow.
I think all you need is "public liability insurance" for the van, let me know how you get along, Alan Soppitt at Moho Caye is in that business at AE Roe and Sons Belize City. He lives in the room at the end of the hall from where we stayed last fall. An e-mail to him may get the info we need.

Keep a close eye on the guestbook this week for our schedule,

Hi LeRoy and Carolyn
Still waiting on the three missing parts, sat phone, exhaust boots (in Toronto at customs last 14 days!!) and the new high output alternator. looks like we will not get out of here this week. Also have a meeting with the architect again about the new building early next week.
Blair Clampbell also wants White tigers in the building next week, means hauling out Steve Cudmore and Bill Martin which have to be turned around, moving Arctura back to her last years spot, move Martin and Cudmore back in and then White Tigers in the empty space!!!. It cannot be done unless I am here. Anyway by that time all the stuff will be here.

So in the meantime I think I will go up to the Miramichi for the weekend to Bill Fullertons brother's camp, David P, Guy B. Gerry A and Al Boily are going up on Thursday and back on Sunday.

When do you have to exit the country again for van purposes?
Received mail from a sailor from California, Ward Osbourne, who is coming to the river on Nov 30, to look at a boat at Tortugal Marina, I told him to come to our dock and we would take him over there in the dink. Surely Mary and I will be there by then for sure.

Weather is in Indian summer mode here, 15+ deg C and tomorrow 2 inches of rain expected. The new beach at the west end has become the destination of choice for walkers these days, the boardwalk is 553 metres long and growing. They are now bridging the creek at Hippenstalls corner and heading to the front red range light. Looks really good.

Hi LeRoy and Carolyn: I've been in Moncton the last two weeks on course and attending meetings so just saw you message. I called Wood Gundy and your bills are indeed being paid by their due dates. Also, I called your insurance and the van is not covered in Central America, North America only. It a long week-end for us this week due to Rememberance Day being on Monday this year. I'm heading out to moms to take her to the Three Oaks Craft Fair. It snowed last week but mild for the next few days. Snow all gone. We are all well. Take care. Luv Gail

Hi Carolyn and Leroy, It was great to hear from you (through Dick Wedge)! I spoke with Angela as soon as I got off of the phone and she is going to see what she can find out about each of the boys and I will let you know? So how is it? I envy you both!! I am taking Computer Programming at Holland College and hoping to get called back to the Tax Centre in the new year. As you probably know, I am single and living with Candace (in Freetown). I am adjusting well; I am so busy with school and curling that I barely have time to brood! I can't wait to hear from you - I will check in tomorrow and I will let you know as soon as Angela gets any news. God Bless, Kathy Simmons

Just talked Kathy Simmons, she was at her daughter's and I walked her through the way to get guestbook working. She said she would get the info about Adam.
I have 12 of the eyelets here, is that enough? Where is Shang anchored? Is Pat OK? Do not forget to lift off the engine each night.
Still waiting on the exhaust parts, and the Globlestar sat phone , when all this arrives, we are off, hopefully to Miami next Thursday or Friday. Plan on 3 or 4 days there, then Belize City. Will let you know in lots of time. Don't want to set date until all the stuff is here.

Hi LeRoy and Carolyn
Called that # for Jason, but it was on temp disconnect, checked with Heather from the club, she gave me the # for Tracey no answer but she did call back last night. Said everything is fine, Jason od getting along OK and she will get him on the guestbook to send message.
If you boat sit Shang and she is at anchor, please make sure you lift out the 4.2 Suzuki every night. They do not want the inflatable only the motors attached, the price of an outboard is a years salary for some down there!!
Just waiting on the exhaust boots now, then we will be off, they are still in customs in Toronto.
Keep a close eye on the guestbook for awhile, where do you go for messages... Backpackers? if so regards to young Tomas for us.
Got the last two udder balms at CoOp today.

Hi Mike and Gerry Prowse
Whitecap is still on the Rio Dulce in Guatemala, at Lube's wharf. Mary and I are still in Summerside and plan to fly to Miami in the next ten days or so.
We plan to attend the SSCA get together in Melbourne Fl, maybe drive up to St. Augustine to visit Mary's sister and brother, back to Miami and fly to Belize City from there.
Leryo and Carolyn are staying on board Whitecap, and they plan to drive from the Rio to Belize City to pick us up, saving an 8 hour chicken bus ride (better in a van than on a chicken bus eh!!) While in Belize City we can visit Moho Caye, where we left Whitecap for the summer of 2001.
LeRoy called last night (Tuesday), everything fine on the river, sounds like they are having fun and some sauce too,(at the prices one cannot not aford to). Carolyn has scrubbed every nook and cranny, (says not a cockroach to be found), Lube's brother has varnished the toe rail and cockpit console, all we have to do is lift the engine to fix the transmission shift lever, (I have the parts here), Pat and Lube have arranged with a lady to build a new dodger and African Queen (the cover we use to shade the whole boat and collect rain for the water tank) which have to be replaced.
Nice to hear from you, hope all is well.

Well Old Man Winter is here, this AM the ground was covered in white stuff, and the puddles were frozen.
Did you find the grommet tool?
Dick

- Sunday, November 03, 2002 at 13:14:49 (EST)

Just thought of something else, in the locker behind either the fwd or aft captain's chairs, in a plastic bag all taped up you will find a grommet tool and some brass grommets. Need to know what size they are so I can pick up some more for the new African Queen. I think they are 3/8 but cannot remember.
Had dinnar at the club tonight, busy as ever on Fri night, regards from Kevin R, Ray mahar, Wayne and Jocelyn and the bartender from hell...

Hi everyone in El Relleno, Rio Dulce
Guess what... it is snowing here, not much but we are to get 2 cm tonight!!!
Most of the parts and pieces have arrived, sunbrella, zippers etc arrived today, still waiting on the exhaust parts, they were in toronto last Monday at customs.
Guess if the lady will not be there until January, we will have to stay until then, so much for plans to Panama or at least Roatan for Christmas. But that is not the end of the world.
Still need the fastners thingys, I have 12 here will get 12 more.
Tell Pat I will get the red and Black 14 g tinned wire somewhere. Sort of thinking fly to Miami on points, the vehicle thing is not working out. Also may be a delay, Mary has doc appointment next week.

Will be back on in a few days

Hi LeRoy and Carolyn
Two more things to check if you do not mind? Look in the rear hatch under the mizzen, there should be a red sailbag with a mosquito net which covers the entire dodger and bimini, is it OK? or should we bring a new one?
#2 if you go to Mario's Marina (Cayuga Club) up in the main building whwer the office is there is a items for sale shelf, Last spring there was a new set of the hook part of our boarding ladder on sale for US $30. Hi Leroy and Carolyn
Talked to Heather at the phone # you gave, Jason is doing fine, no problems and he is in school.
All the dodger parts are either here or ordered today, there will be lots of extra materiel. I already have the chrome/bronze eylets, there are/should be extra twist lock fasteners in the top drawer of the coffee table.
Still trying to line up a vehicle delivery to Florida, but will have to buy tickets if we do not hear in the next few days.

Docks are out, we had heavy frost, a good wind now and the leaves will all be gone, our grapes on the patio trellis is a popular item these days, everyone who comes to visit goes home with a bag full, and there are lots left.
Check with Pat, re the wire he wants, I can get Anchor tinned triplex white, black green in 100 ft rolls for the almost the same price as single primary, is he doing masthead only or also spreader light?
Cajun Spirit placed 9th for the Straight racing totals out of 44 boats, next year will have to try harder.

Hi LeRoy and Carolyn: A short note to give more details on Carla's accident. It was a single vehicle. She was driving. Three others were injured. Two were out of hospital in time to go to wake/funeral. Didn't know any of them. A third passenger, a female, was still in hospital with non life threatening injuries. Carla was badly disfigured so they had a closed casket. The 4 year old really doesn't understand much and Cameron is still kind of confused, although he went back to school two days after the funeral. Other than this, we are all well. Glad to hear you are fine, although you seem very busy. Take care. Gail

Hi everyone on the RIO Dulce in Guatemala
Having trouble rounding up the red dodger materiel, no one seems to have enough!!! Tell Pat we will bring the wire for him. Someone says we took half of what we needed on board and flew the rest down!!!
Have set a tentative date of the 14th, but still hoping on a vehicle to Miami otherwise we will fly.
Who will I check with to find out about the boys? Things are winding down here, Levi has the finger docks, water and electric all un-attached, so things will go quicker on Saturday. Check with Lube about someone to sew this new African Queen, I seem to remember he had a friend into canvas stuff.
