Well it is Saturday night in Yucalpeten. 21:00 local time, I just came from Ed Winchesters beach house, went out there for a drink and they fed me supper! They just told me the other day if you pass the orange crush sign, you have gone too far, and sure enough, they were all sitting in the courtyard thinking about Whitecap... Anyway nice visit, and I caught the last Cambio back to town. After you land in Cancun, get a taxi to take you to the high speed ferry to Isla Mujeres. do not take the normal ferry, it takes over an hour. Once at Mujeres, get a cab to take you to Marina Paraiso, and tell the manager you are looking for "Juan Manuel" Mier y Teran and his wife Juddy Abbott on their boat "Grumpy". Juan Manuel is a brother of Felix here at Yucalpeten, and he came to see me yesterday, when we arranged all this. They will arrange an apartment at the marina. Juan Manuel and Judy are also going to "buddy boat with us to Belize and Rio Dulce, a trip they always wanted to do. They own the magazine "Yucatan Today". Buddy and Beckey on "Destiny" from Aberdeen may also be there. He says the marina is getting crowded, boats coming from everywhere. We are 3 days from Isla Mujeres, depending on the winds, a NW or SW or even S wind would be great, anything that does not have East in it and we can fly (so to speak). Bill please leave this posted, Juan Manuel will be looking for it, They are flying over there from Merida tomorrow Friday. I am not sure if Mary is coming on the 17th or the 19th??? please let me know. and please not to forget the things we need. The BNS reneual card should be at home, and the CIBC new one also, this one is all scratched up. Will come back on before I return to the boat Dick Dick - Thursday, February 15, 2001 at 12:09:27 (EST) Came to town early today, we are getting out of canned goods also, the Waddells is all gone, bring more!!!, Last night Felix came for Dinner, we had spaggetti, and I added 1 drained cans of the following: black olives, bar clams, mushrooms, jalapeneos. Turned out pretty good, at least they ate it all. I am also doing the bank thing for the port Captain, it seems the $141 pesos is for "IN" and "OUT" is another $141 pesos!!! They are even trying to tack this on the local yachters!!! Imagine having to go to the bank, 5 miles away, every time you wish to go sailing.... I told him I was walking, and was not going to do the bank thing twice, after discussion (it is his country) he told his assistant to give me a second set of papers, so I can pay the bank only once for both!!! Stupido eh. I am missing my passport, I am sure I tucked it away and had a senior moment about where, I remember it was getting bent so I put it under something. I will leave seperate instructions for Mary. Dick Dick - Thursday, February 15, 2001 at 11:51:53 (EST) Will come back on tomorrow Dick Dick - Tuesday, February 13, 2001 at 18:11:55 (EST) I JUST READ YOUR UPDATE HOPE YOU GET ALONG GOOD EDDIE IN MISCOUCHE EDDIE ARSENAULT <weld@pei.sympatico.ca> MISCOUCHE, P.E.I. CANADA - Tuesday, February 13, 2001 at 13:57:20 (EST) JUST FINISH READING YOUR UPDATE HOPE YOU GET ALONG GOOD EDDIE EDDY ARSENAULT <weld@pei.sympatico.ca> MISCOUCHE, P.E. Dick Dick - Tuesday, February 13, 2001 at 12:53:04 (EST) Hi Dick! We are having a great time following your adventures. Come on by St. Augustine. Have fun!!!!! Elaine and Steve <ElnVlachos@AOL.comStAugustin> StAugustine, Florida USA - Tuesday, February 13, 2001 at 11:24:45 (EST) Hope you noticed the e-mails below. I was working on line with the guest book while you were sending, I guess. Remember, even if something happens that you don't see your message posted, I get an e-mail copy of it....so not to worry. Bill <Bill Fullerton@tecksite.com> - Monday, February 12, 2001 at 17:50:23 (EST) Many thanks, that is the password I have been using, but now it questions it. Just came fron the place where the part is supposed to be shipped to, not there today, says the Mex customs want US$100 for duty, there should not be any as we are a "yacht in Transit", so I have to come back again tomorrow!!! damm, we are just spinning our wheels now, screwing the dog so to speak... anyway nothing I can do. Also the port captain office tell me when we go to leave, we have to get a paper from him, take it to a bank in Progresso, pay US$14 GET A RECIEPT, and then go back to his office for the despacho. Canadian sailors do not know how fortunate they are. They will not give me the papers until we are ready to leave!!! Will contact tomorrow Tuesday Dick Dick - Monday, February 12, 2001 at 17:45:14 (EST) I took the liberty of checking your e-mail in case there was an accumulation that needed your attention. Here is one from Audrey's daughter, dated 02/11/01 11:14 (similar to one you saw below). There is another from Princess Auto (advertisement with logos) addressed to you, but unless you were expecting something from them, I won't forward it through the guest book, but will re-e-mail it if you want it. There is one more from John & Martine (02/08/01 10:18) and I will post it as well and then won't check your account again unless you want me to. Hopefully you'll have this e-mail problem fixed up shortly. ********************************************** hi dick and mary, have not heard from you for a while, hopefully everything is ok. have been watching the wx in yr area and it looks like it should be getting better. a friend in the dominican republic finally made it to puerto rico after waiting most of december and january. another has been enjoying the bahamas with little restrictions, he has just learned to sail when the winds are always 15 to 20 knots. you are probably aware of the significant amounts of snowfall in the maritimes as well as in ontario. i have not seen it like this since moving here in 1989. martine and i as well as molly are kind of enjoying it by going x-country skiing as much as possible. i just ordered a wind generator and will now start saving for a water maker. after that a new set of cruising sails and i should be ready to go. unfortunately that means i will probably have to get a job as i have finished with the airforce, turning that magic age of 55. well, hope both of you are well kind regards john/martine/molly *********************************************** Hi Dick: This is Wendy Giesbrecht (daughter of Audrey & Elmer Newson) from Calgary, Alberta. Mom and Elmer were just on line talking to me and told me about your site. What a job you've done. Its great to see what your up to. I will keep coming back to see where you are and the progress that you are making. Hope all is well. Wendy P.S. This is my genealogy website. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~durieux/home.html ********************************************************** Your incoming e-mail account is pop.whitecap-pei.com and your password is the same old one you always had (as easy as Dick123Wedge). The outgoing mail account, as you know, depends on whose computer hook-up you're using and you must plug that into your account server options for you to be able to send. Try again....best o'luck. Bill <Bill Fullerton@tecksite.com> Summerside, PEI Canada - Monday, February 12, 2001 at 17:09:26 (EST) Dick Dick - Monday, February 12, 2001 at 16:01:24 (EST) I think I will also chuck the eggs, it has been a week... eh Having fun Dick Dick - Monday, February 12, 2001 at 15:56:23 (EST) Just a few things, Bill the server is kicking me out saying: invalid user, and asks for the user name and password over and over, on the pop.whitecap-pei.com account. I think I know why I am not sending, but the young wiz that runs this site is never here when I come in. I also need for Mary to bring down: 10 ft of 1/8 1 x 19 SS wire, Gerry has some, and also there is a glass jar (an old light meter glass cover) filled with noresman terminals and cones,it was by the back door radiator, I need an eye terminal and at least two cones for the wire. Some where along the way we broke most of the wires on the port upper intermediate stay, the little one that stops vibration above the spreaders, the old one was just nicopressed at the top. Went up the mast twice yesterday, nice view, the jib haillaird was wrapped around the forestay 4 times and wound itself down inside the foil cutting a 3" grove along the way, I was able to unwind 2 loops, but the others were truly jambed in, so I cut the Haillaird and the fitting off (2 cuts) and tucked the sharp ends in, taped them in, and now the 2 loops are acting as a bushing in there!!! Harken should have a cast or machined fitting up there to prevent this from happening!!! In all I lost about 6" if haillaird, not to worry. Came to town today, to see if the part is here yet (Monday afternoon) there was no delivery here on Saturday. We are all ready to drop her back in. It is the printed circuit board that is gone on the fridge, the neg post got salt water in the storm and burnt up, the temp fix only worked a day, but at least we know what is wrong, Hope that is the part Peter ordered... The MacGregor cat that was here, left for Isla Mujeres and that night we had a norte, there were two ladies aboard, and only the hulls to get shelter in, everything else is deck, today the winds shifted, and if they got around Cabo Catoche, they have it on the nose again... If I think of anything else, I will send another note today. By the way had a virus Spirale, got it fixed in Merida, but it came back the next day when I restored my desktop, found it in a boot up file and rem'd out the line. The file is called Aakaaka so watch for it. I renamed the file AAAakaaka so it will not find itself again. Dick Dick - Monday, February 12, 2001 at 15:50:02 (EST) Daughter of Audrey Newson (Elmer) here. Sounds like your having a great trip (except for the loss of your bacon). We will be following your adventures. Take care. Wendy & Brian Giesbrecht <bgiesbre@telusplanet.net> Calgary, AB Canada - Sunday, February 11, 2001 at 10:23:40 (EST) Yep, I am feeling very good, loosing weight, because on board we only have one meal daily, and withbthe refrigeration down, i will probably have to chuck the eggs, or start raising my own chickens!! Regretfully, I lost my beautiful bacon, darn. Besides all that, my computer is down for the day, but there are internet cafes all over the place everywhere we go. My only problem is I LOVE shrimp, and have it every chance I get, I suppose when Mary gets to Isla Mujeres, I will probably be limited to once a week... Having fun, hope all is well.
